Wind Ensemble (MU135) The GVHS Wind Ensemble is comprised of the most advanced instrumental musicians. The Wind Ensemble will perform wind band literature of the highest quality, and will include the study of advanced instrumental technique and ensemble skills. The Wind Ensemble regularly performs at prestigious events both on and off campus, and most recently was a featured ensemble at the 2018 Missouri Music Educator Association’s convention. Ear training skills, music theory, history, composition, and appropriate rehearsal/performance disciplines will be taught and maintained within the group throughout the year. During the Fall semester, the curriculum will be paralleled to that of all GV Band students in a Marching Eagles focused education.
Symphonic Band (MU 140)
Symphonic Band (MU140) The GVHS Symphonic Band is comprised of intermediate instrumental music students who choose to participate in Band while developing the musical proficiency required for Wind Ensemble. The Symphonic Band will perform appropriately challenging wind band literature, and will include the study of instrumental technique and ensemble skills. Ear training skills, music theory, history, composition, and appropriate rehearsal/performance disciplines will be taught and maintained within the group throughout the year. During the Fall semester, the curriculum will be paralleled to that of all GV Band students in a Marching Eagles focused education.
Concert Band (MU 105)
Concert Band (MU105) The GVHS Concert Band is comprised of young instrumental music students who choose to participate in Band while developing the musical proficiency required for Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble. No audition is required for participation in Concert Band, and all Freshmen band students will be enrolled. The Concert Band will focus on the further development of individual technique, musicianship, and ensemble skills through the study and performance of quality Band repertoire. Ear training skills, music theory, history, composition, and appropriate rehearsal/performance disciplines will be taught and maintained within the group throughout the year. During the Fall semester, the curriculum will be paralleled to that of all GV Band students in a Marching Eagles focused education.
Percussion Ensemble
Percussion Ensemble The GVHS Percussion Ensemble is composed of the most advanced percussionists in the Grain Valley Band Program. The Percussion Ensemble is the percussion class that corresponds with the Wind Ensemble. This ensemble performs literature of the highest quality, and will include the study of advanced instrumental technique and ensemble skills. Individual musicianship is developed through advanced small ensemble and solo literature. Students in the Percussion Ensemble are highly encouraged to enroll in private lessons, or show strong ability to prepare music independently. Students are expected to commit to a minimum of two after school rehearsals a week. This ensemble will frequently travel to perform at state and national festivals, and will be a featured ensemble at our annual Night of Percussion.
Percussion Orchestra
Percussion Orchestra The GVHS Percussion Orchestra is composed of intermediate level percussionists with a focus of developing the musical proficiency required for the Percussion Ensemble. The Percussion Orchestra is the percussion class that corresponds with the Symphonic Band. The Percussion Orchestra will perform medium level literature to further develop their ensemble skills. Individual musicianship is further developed through medium level small ensemble and solo literature. Students in the Percussion Orchestra are highly encouraged to enroll in private lessons, and are expected to attend a minimum of one after school rehearsal a week. This ensemble will travel to perform at state large ensemble, Missouri Day of Percussion, and will be featured at our annual Night of Percussion.
Concert Percussion
Concert Percussion The GVHS Concert Percussion class is composed of young and developing percussionists with a focus of developing the proficiency required for the Percussion Orchestra or Percussion Ensemble. The Concert Percussion class corresponds with the Concert Band. No audition is required for participation in Concert Percussion, and all Freshmen percussion students will be enrolled (Freshman will be able to audition into the Percussion Orchestra or Percussion Ensemble towards the end of the Fall semester). Individual musicianship is developed through small ensembles, etude studies, and medium-easy level solo literature. Students in Concert Percussion are highly encouraged to enroll in private lessons. This ensemble will travel to perform at the Missouri Day of Percussion and will be featured at our annual Night of Percussion.
