Eagle Jazz Ensemble (MU190) Jazz Ensemble is a performance based class focused on the American music style of Jazz with styles including swing, latin, bop, funk, and more. The history of jazz and its evolution into modern day jazz will also be explored.Participation in the GV Eagle Jazz Ensemble includes participation in all during and after school rehearsals and performances. The EJE may begin rehearsing after school during the Fall semester and may be asked to perform at the Winter Concert.
Expectations: Participation in all Band classes carries with it the responsibility of attendance at ALL scheduled rehearsals and performances, which may involve time outside of the regular school day. The Marching Band does not meet during the school day, but is an extension of the daily Band curriculum. While not required, students are highly encouraged to take private lessons. Students may be required to participate in District/State small ensemble contest, and are highly encouraged to audition for various honor band/all-state opportunities. Students are expected to make the commitment to fully participate in all rehearsals and performances. Rehearsals begin during the summer and will include additional rehearsals outside of class time. Performances include concerts, festivals, competitions, parades, pep band, and various community events.
Middle School Jazz Band The GV Middle School Jazz Band is an audition-based ensemble composed of 7th and 8th grade musicians from both North and South Middle Schools. The band showcases a traditional jazz instrumentation and is open to all students, with no cap on enrollment. We encourage students who play secondary instruments to audition—approximately 34% of the ensemble each year is made up of talented musicians on secondary instruments. The Jazz Band consistently receives top ratings and individual soloist honors at prestigious jazz festivals across Missouri and Kansas. Auditions are held following a December training camp every school year. Regular rehearsals take place twice a week after school from January to April at South Middle School (SMS).
