BPA Board Members

Our Mission: To provide unwavering support for the Grain Valley Bands.
President: Mark Chapburn

​The BPA President is the chief executive officer of the BPA and is the Chairperson that presides over all membership or directors’ meetings that he/she attends. All directors and officers of the BPA report to the President.  It is the responsibility of the President to see that the bylaws and standing rules are followed. The President will be the main source of communication between the Band Director, other school staff, and the BPA.

​The Vice President will become familiar with the duties of the President and will serve as Chairman of all membership and directors' meetings when the President is not in attendance. The Vice President will be considered “in training” during the second term of the President. They will be asked to oversee and be involved for training purposes in many of the areas that the President oversees. The Vice President shall also directly oversee the following Directors:
● Director of Operations
● Director of Revenue
● Director of Events

The Recording Secretary is responsible for seeing that the records of the GVBPA are kept and the minutes of the GVBPA general session and Board of Directors are recorded and distributed.  When items are presented and approved by the membership for expenditures or purchases, the Secretary will keep a record of such approval; and no further approvals shall be necessary for actual payment.
Director of Events: Jenny Baker

The Director of Events is responsible for oversight and planning of parent supported components for events.  These include but are not limited to: competitions, special events (ex: Band BBQ, Senior Night, GV Parade, Trunk or Treat, Band Banquet, etc.), football games, concerts, festivals, celebrations, etc.

Committees that may fall under the direction of the Director of Events can include, but are not limited to: Decorations and Event Coordinator.
Director of Operations: Nick Stephens
Email Operations
The Director of Operations is responsible for building and/or maintaining equipment, semi-loading/unloading at all events; on and off field management; uniform management; as well as, Pit and Prop Crew activities. He/she is to provide set-up support for all events to include, but not limited to: Band BBQ, fireworks fundraiser, competitions, hospitality support, concessions, football games, etc. The Director of Operations coordinates all transportation needs as it pertains to the logistics of moving band equipment and props.
Director of Treasury: David Baker

The Director of Treasury is responsible for managing the on-going finances of the BPA as well as
develop and/or maintain a long-term financial vision. The Director of Treasury will provide financial reports at monthly and quarterly meetings. The Director of Treasury will be acting Treasurer in the event that the Treasurer’s position should become vacant. The Director of Treasury will also be responsible for all governmental compliance.
Director of Revenue: Samantha Byram

The Director of Revenue is responsible for the generation of funds/revenue of the BPA. He/she will ensure that all fundraising activities comply with the Band Directors’ requirements, as well as ensuring compliance to any rule and/or regulations that may apply. He/she will ensure persons within the Corporation are aware of and/or have access to upcoming activity information via the Director of Public Relations. The outgoing Director is expected to coordinate and run the fireworks fundraiser in its entirety in their outgoing summer. They will remain in office as trainer until the fundraiser is complete. The Director of Revenue shall be responsible for coordinating with the Director of Treasury to ensure proper accounting principles are applied to funds generated.
Director of Public Relations: Sally Whitaker

The Director of Public Relations is responsible for handling all of the BPA's correspondence and communications.  He/She will also ensure adequate communication both within and outside the BPA, including text and graphic design. He/she will ensure persons within the BPA are aware of and/or have access to upcoming activity information.  ​He/She will develop Submission Guidelines for BPA News/Posts via email, website and social media; as well as develop an annual marketing plan for social media to emphasize fundraisers, events, and band/director spotlights.
Director of Hospitality: Jessica Stephens

The Director of Hospitality is responsible for all areas where students and directors will need to be served meals or snacks. This includes, but is not limited to: competitions, football games, concerts, festivals, etc. He/She will facilitate the concession needs for the Solo and Small Ensemble Competition, as well as, the hospitality rooms for the judges, bus drivers, and educators. He/She will coordinate the meal and/or snack needs of the band with the Band Director and plan for volunteers to carry out the request in an efficient and cost-effective manner. The Director of Hospitality will work closely with the Director of Events to ensure that all needs are met.
Director of Technology: Casey Mickelson

The Director of Technology is responsible for internal and external management of all IT services for the
BPA. This includes, but is not limited to: implement a high-tech infrastructure that will support the
organizations growth, business operations, and maintain cybersecurity; develop, maintain, and implement
information technology policies, guidelines and best practices; such as onboarding, security, updates and patches, and change management; write budgets based on assessed needs and strategic plans; provide, coordinate, and schedule training for all board members in the use of technology, either creating the training materials or providing training resources; ensure necessary software and hardware updates, advanced troubleshooting, security, compatibility testing, programming, implementation and system integration; identify low-cost and free technology products that will increase the impact of the organization, decrease time and/or cost, increase quality of work and satisfaction of members and the board of directors; and oversee network administration, backup and security protocols and establish a business continuity/disaster recovery strategy for all applications and data.
